Manchester United striker Benjamin Šeško is expected to remain sidelined until at least January 2027 after suffering a recurring shin injury, dealing another setback to the club’s attacking options.
The 23-year-old Slovenia international has not played since Manchester United’s 3–2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup on September 16. He was substituted in the 66th minute of that match after experiencing discomfort.
According to reports, United’s medical team has consulted specialists to determine the most appropriate treatment. The current problem is understood to be an impact injury rather than shin splints, although it affects an area previously troubled by injury.
Šeško also missed the final three Premier League matches of last season after aggravating the problem against Liverpool. The injury subsequently kept him out of pre-season before he returned to action in August.
Since joining United from RB Leipzig in August 2025 for a reported £73.7 million, the striker has contributed 14 goals in 38 appearances across competitions. He has scored twice this season.
His absence leaves manager Michael Carrick with fewer natural centre-forward options as United prepare for a demanding run of fixtures, including Premier League meetings with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.
The extended recovery period could also influence the club’s recruitment plans ahead of the January transfer window, particularly if the team continues to struggle for goals.
United will need to manage Šeško’s recovery carefully to reduce the risk of another setback and ensure he regains full fitness before returning to competitive action.
