Leeds United are reportedly considering a January move for Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, with the defender’s contract situation at Portuguese club FC Porto potentially opening the door to a reduced transfer fee.
The Premier League side have tracked the 29-year-old left-back across previous transfer windows and are exploring the possibility of signing him before his current contract expires at the end of the 2026/2027 season.
Sanusi joined Porto in 2020 and is now in his seventh season with the Portuguese giants. He has made 29 appearances in the UEFA Champions League, giving him considerable experience in European football.
The Nigerian defender started 11 league matches for Porto last season but has featured more regularly in the current campaign, recording five league starts so far.
Leeds are seeking additional competition at left-back for Gabriel Gudmundsson as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
The proposed move could become more straightforward if Porto fail to agree a contract extension with Sanusi. However, no completed transfer has been announced, and Leeds’ reported interest remains subject to negotiations and the Portuguese club’s decision on the player’s future.
For Sanusi, a potential move to English football would represent a new chapter in his club career, while increased competition for places at Leeds could provide the club with another experienced defensive option.
