The Women in Energy Network (WIEN) has partnered with KPMG Advisory Services to develop a benchmark for measuring gender representation and inclusion across Nigeria’s oil, gas and power industries.
The initiative is expected to provide reliable data on women’s participation, identify gaps and help energy companies assess progress towards more inclusive workplaces and leadership structures.
WIEN President, Eyono Fatayi-Williams, said the annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Benchmark Report would provide an evidence-based foundation for discussions on gender representation and support engagement with government and industry stakeholders on policies to expand opportunities for women.
The report will examine women’s participation in leadership and professional careers, opportunities for young women through mentorship and employment, and access to business opportunities for women-owned enterprises.
KPMG’s representative, Chukwuemeke Igabari, said the firm would support the collection and validation of industry data to establish a baseline against which future progress could be measured.
The partnership also includes plans to strengthen the verification of nominees for WIEN’s industry awards and develop directories of qualified women seeking board appointments and verified women-owned businesses.
The inaugural benchmark report is scheduled to be unveiled on November 11, 2026, at WIEN’s gala and awards night in Lagos.
The initiative seeks to move discussions about gender inclusion beyond general commitments towards measurable results. Reliable data could help organisations identify barriers to women’s advancement, improve workplace policies and widen access to leadership and commercial opportunities across the energy value chain.
