The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 20-year-old men over an alleged plot to kidnap the village head of Bangare in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Aliyu Naziru Garba and Bashir Alhasan. Their arrest followed a complaint by the traditional ruler, Mallam Idris, who reported receiving a threat of abduction.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the village head reported the incident at the Gezawa Divisional Police Headquarters on October 26, 2026.
According to CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the traditional ruler had received a threatening phone call from an unidentified person on October 24. The caller allegedly threatened to kidnap him.
Following the complaint, officers attached to the Gezawa Division launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the two suspects.
Kiyawa said the suspects had allegedly confessed to the offence, adding that investigations were ongoing. He stated that they would be charged in court after the investigation was concluded.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers for their response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities.
The incident highlights the importance of prompt reporting and police investigations in responding to threats against community leaders. However, the allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the suspects’ guilt must be established in court.
