Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have repelled a terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State and rescued two abducted herders during a separate operation in Sokoto State.
The operations were conducted on Wednesday, October 28, as security forces intensified efforts to tackle armed groups operating across the North-West.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 came under a coordinated attack while conducting a patrol along the Anka–Guruzu Road. The attackers reportedly opened fire from both sides of the road, but the soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat.
According to the task force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was evacuated for medical treatment. The soldier was reported to be in stable condition.
The military said troops subsequently secured the road and restored movement for commuters.
In a separate operation at Takasaba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempted livestock theft and abduction. The attackers reportedly fled after troops engaged them, abandoning 520 livestock and two abducted herders.
The rescued victims were identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14. They were later handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General W.B. Idris, commended the troops and urged them to sustain operations against armed groups.
The incidents highlight the continuing security challenges facing North-West communities, where attacks on security personnel, kidnappings and livestock theft threaten lives, livelihoods and freedom of movement. Sustained security operations and timely intelligence from residents remain important to protecting vulnerable communities.
