Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has urged Nigerian youths to harness artificial intelligence (AI) to build businesses, create opportunities and contribute to national development.
Kukah gave the advice while delivering a convocation lecture titled The Pursuit of Happiness in a World of Moral Relativism at Augustine University, Epe, Lagos.
He challenged young Nigerians to focus less on the shortcomings of political office holders and instead use their education, skills and available technology to address societal challenges.
The cleric acknowledged that issues such as poor leadership, perceived injustice and limited opportunities had contributed to frustration among young people. However, he urged them not to allow these challenges to discourage their efforts towards building a better future.
He identified education, medicine, agriculture, banking, law, engineering and business as sectors being transformed by AI, encouraging graduates to explore its opportunities.
Kukah also cited an International Monetary Fund estimate that AI could affect about 40 per cent of jobs, stressing the importance of preparing for changes in the employment landscape.
He urged young Nigerians living abroad to remain committed to creating value wherever they find themselves, while not dismissing the possibility of building successful enterprises and institutions in Nigeria.
The bishop’s message highlights the growing importance of digital skills, innovation and entrepreneurship in preparing young people for changing economic opportunities.
