Former Edo State Governor and Senator Adams Oshiomhole has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision not to attend every All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oshiomhole said there was no contradiction between Tinubu’s religious activities and his constitutional responsibility to govern the country.
He made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, October 30, while responding to questions about the President’s planned absence from some campaign engagements and his religious activities in Mecca.
The senator described the President’s participation in campaign activities as a matter of choice and the prerogative of the ruling party.
He argued that a president did not need to be physically present at every engagement to perform his responsibilities, comparing the situation to modern learning arrangements where teaching can take place remotely.
Oshiomhole also maintained that the APC had the right to determine the President’s campaign schedule and decide which rallies he should attend.
Tinubu had earlier announced that he would not accompany the party’s campaign team to every event ahead of the 2027 elections, citing the need to prioritise governance, financial obligations and investment.
The development highlights the APC’s approach to balancing presidential responsibilities with nationwide election mobilisation as preparations for the 2027 polls continue.
