Dangote Cement Plc has stepped up road safety measures across its African operations, warning truck drivers that no business delivery is worth risking a human life.

The company’s Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, gave the warning at the 2026 Drivers’ Safety Retreat held at its Obajana Plant in Kogi State on the theme, “Think Safety, Act Safely.”

Pathak said drivers were essential to the company’s distribution network and represented its reputation on highways. He urged them to avoid speeding, fatigue and other dangerous practices, stressing that safe arrival mattered more than delivery speed.

He also pledged continued investment in drivers’ welfare, professional training and safer transport operations. Drivers were advised to stop and rest whenever tired rather than risk accidents.

Dangote Cement’s Head of Transport, Murilo Silva, warned against reckless driving, proxy driving and other unsafe practices, urging drivers to take responsibility for their actions and protect other road users.

Ebere Okonkwo, the company’s Group Head of Transport, Health, Safety and Environment for Pan Africa Nigeria, said the retreat was intended to strengthen safety awareness. She also highlighted management’s monitoring of drivers’ movements.

During discussions, drivers raised concerns about rising living costs, work-related expenses and delays in receiving drug test results.

The retreat also recognised outstanding personnel, with awards presented to 10 drivers. Ismaila Suleiman was named the best-performing driver for the year under review.
