South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix is preparing to announce additional measures to reward shareholders on Wednesday, October 28, alongside its third-quarter earnings report.
The announcement comes amid growing investor expectations that the company will distribute more of its profits following strong demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
Potential $12 Billion Special Dividend
Investors are closely watching reports that SK Hynix is considering a special dividend of approximately 16 trillion won, equivalent to about $12 billion. The proposed payment could be funded by gains from the company’s investment in Japanese memory chipmaker Kioxia.
However, SK Hynix has stated that no final decision has been made regarding the proposed dividend or other additional shareholder return measures. Any plan will require approval from its board of directors.
Previous Buyback Programme
In August, SK Hynix announced a 40 trillion won share buyback programme, with the repurchased shares set to be cancelled. The company also committed to returning more than 50% of its cumulative free cash flow between 2025 and 2027 to shareholders.
The latest announcement is expected to provide further details about how the company intends to reward investors while maintaining funding for its future business expansion.
Focus on AI Growth
SK Hynix has benefited from increasing demand for high-bandwidth memory chips used in AI processors and data centres. Despite its strong business performance, fluctuations in its share price have increased investor interest in higher dividends and other measures to improve shareholder value.
The company’s announcement on Wednesday will be closely watched for confirmation of its plans and the scale of any additional payouts.
Until an official decision is announced, the reported $12 billion special dividend remains unconfirmed.
