Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has threatened to dismiss political appointees and party officials found selling empowerment items distributed to beneficiaries, warning that anyone who diverts the items from their intended purpose will face disciplinary action.
The governor issued the warning through the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, on Monday during the 12th empowerment programme organised by Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District.
Yusuf said the items were provided to improve beneficiaries’ welfare and support their economic activities, stressing that they should not be sold for personal gain.
“Whoever sold this intervention will go with his position; I will personally sack him. It is meant for your welfare, not selling, especially party leaders,” the governor warned.
The empowerment programme featured the distribution of 16 vehicles to APC local government chairmen, 400 motorcycles to party executives and sewing machines to beneficiaries in the tailoring sector.
A total of 200 beneficiaries received tailoring packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each to strengthen their businesses and expand income-generating opportunities.
Speaking at the event, Senator Sumaila said the initiative was intended to promote economic independence, improve livelihoods and create opportunities for beneficiaries to expand their businesses.
He also highlighted interventions in agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure and water supply across Kano South, saying the programmes were aimed at improving living conditions in the district.
The governor’s warning underscores the importance of ensuring that empowerment programmes reach their intended beneficiaries and serve their stated objectives. Effective monitoring of distributed items could help discourage diversion and improve accountability in the delivery of public and constituency-based interventions.
