Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a Sudanese national suspected of being a foreign terrorist fighter and a Ghanaian woman alleged to be an illegal immigrant during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a report by Punch, the suspects were apprehended by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion in Lassa, Dille General Area, as part of ongoing intelligence driven counter terrorism operations across the North East.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, identified the suspects as 32 year old Musa Fashir, a Sudanese national suspected of collaborating with terrorist groups, and 36 year old Mary Florence, who claimed to be an illegal immigrant from the Republic of Ghana.

Goni said preliminary intelligence indicates that Fashir has links with terrorist elements, raising concerns over the involvement of foreign actors in supporting insurgent activities in the region.

He added that the circumstances surrounding Florence’s presence in the area, as well as the authenticity of her claims, are currently under investigation.

The Army said both suspects are in military custody undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities and uncover any possible connections to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

Operation Hadin Kai described the arrests as a reflection of the effectiveness of its intelligence driven operations and reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist logistics, financing and support networks across the North East.

The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace, security and stability in the region.
