Spotify is reportedly preparing to introduce an artificial intelligence-powered music remix service in 2027, allowing users to create alternative versions of existing songs using AI technology.

According to a report by the Financial Times, the streaming platform is targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the launch, although the timeline has not been finalised.

The proposed service would allow users to transform songs into different musical styles and genres. For instance, listeners could turn a folk song into a dance track or experiment with different sounds and arrangements of popular music.

Spotify is also reportedly considering an additional monthly subscription fee of between $4 and $5 for access to the feature.

As part of its preparations, the company is working with major music rights holders to secure licensing agreements. It has reportedly reached agreements with Universal Music Group, Merlin and Believe, while discussions with Sony Music and Warner Music are ongoing.

The proposed arrangement could also allow artists whose original recordings are used in AI remixes to receive royalties from the new versions.

The development comes as music streaming companies increasingly explore artificial intelligence to introduce new creative tools and generate additional revenue.

However, securing artists’ approval and addressing copyright concerns remain important challenges for AI-generated music.

Spotify has yet to officially confirm the reported launch date, subscription pricing or full details of the proposed service.

If introduced, the feature could significantly change how listeners interact with music, giving them greater creative control over the songs they enjoy.
