Microsoft Drafts Code of Conduct to Keep AI Under Human Control

Microsoft is developing a new Code of Conduct aimed at ensuring its increasingly capable artificial intelligence systems remain under human control.

The proposed framework would require AI systems to accept human correction, comply with shutdown instructions and communicate clearly with users. Microsoft says the principles are designed to establish safeguards as AI systems become more autonomous and capable of carrying out complex tasks.

Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman said the draft was developed over several months with input from experts. The company is now seeking public feedback before finalizing the framework.

The move comes amid growing debate over AI safety, autonomy and governance, as technology companies develop increasingly advanced AI agents. Microsoft’s initiative highlights the growing focus on ensuring that powerful AI systems remain controllable and accountable to humans.
