Nigeria’s Creative Championship (TCC) is targeting a bigger and more impactful seventh season as the grassroots football league strengthens its commitment to data-driven player development, scouting visibility and pathways into professional football.
Established in November 2020, TCC has completed six consecutive seasons and has produced more than 100 players who have gone on to feature for clubs across Africa, Asia, North America and Europe.
As the competition enters its seventh season, organisers are seeking to build on that record by combining competitive football with improved player monitoring, measurable development and greater exposure for emerging talents seeking opportunities at the professional level.
Speaking during a media parley ahead of the new campaign, TCC Chief Operating Officer, Chike Nwoye, said the league’s ambitions go beyond simply organising matches and determining winners.
“Doing business in Nigeria is tough. Doing sports business in Nigeria is probably tougher, so having successive uninterrupted seasons is proof that we are actually doing something very great,” Nwoye said.
He disclosed that TCC had entered into a partnership with Titan GPS as part of its plans to take player development to another level.
“Going into this season, we are taking it a step further because we just signed a deal with Titan GPS. For us, this was created not just to be part of the football ecosystem but to make it better,” he added.
The new season officially began on Saturday with the TCC Super Cup, which brought together reigning league champions Beyond Limits and TCC Cup winners Atlantic Business FC.
Atlantic Business FC emerged victorious after Bolaji Abdul-Rahman scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute to secure the club’s first-ever TCC Super Cup title.
Beyond Limits have been the dominant force in the league since its establishment, winning five of the first six TCC league titles. Real Sapphire claimed the other championship.
Beyond Limits have also won the TCC Cup twice, in 2024 and 2025. Previous winners of the competition include Gbagada FC, Dino FC, Valiant FC and Atlantic Business FC, who won the titles in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2026 respectively.
TCC is also broadening its reach during the 2026/27 season, with D’Shack and Gaiters undergoing assessment through the TCC Cup after impressing during the selection process.
Beyond its club competitions, the championship has increasingly become a source of talent for Nigeria’s youth national teams.
Among the players linked to the TCC pathway are Musa Akinfenwa, Ebenezer Harcourt, Bidemi Amole and Kparobo Arierhi, who represented Nigeria during the country’s successful campaign at the WAFU B U-20 Championship.
Other TCC products, including Ahmed Akinyele, Jude Sunday and Solomon Agbalaka, have featured for Nigeria at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The league’s contribution extends to the U-17 level, where seven players are recorded as having represented Nigeria. They include Israel Nwachukwu Usulor, Musa Akinfenwa, Muiz Oladimeji, Oreoluwa Agbenla, Daniel Arierhi, Edward Ochigbo and Great Edafe.
At senior level, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro represents another notable example of the league’s pathway to the Super Eagles. TCC lists him among its former players who were part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
With its seventh season now underway, TCC is positioning itself as more than a grassroots competition. Through technology, player tracking, scouting opportunities and stronger development structures, the championship hopes to create a more reliable bridge between young Nigerian footballers and professional clubs at home and abroad.
The organisers believe that continued investment in measurable player development and visibility can help uncover more talents capable of progressing through Nigeria’s football system and ultimately making an impact on the international stage.
