New Zealand head coach Dave Rennie has vowed to stick with the All Blacks’ attacking approach at the 2027 Rugby World Cup, insisting his team will not abandon its playing philosophy in pursuit of results.
Rennie made the remarks after New Zealand defeated Australia 42-21 in Sydney on Saturday, securing a second consecutive victory over the Wallabies.
The result follows a difficult period for the All Blacks, who lost a four-match series against South Africa 3-1.
Despite the Springboks’ success with a physically demanding style of rugby, Rennie believes New Zealand can compete by prioritising speed, width and attacking movement.
He acknowledged that the approach carries risks but maintained that his team could benefit more from its attacking style than it would lose through potential mistakes.
Rennie also stressed that international rugby should preserve different playing philosophies rather than see every team adopt the same tactics.
Although encouraged by the latest victory, the coach said the All Blacks still had considerable work to do to improve their performance and develop a playing tempo capable of challenging the world’s leading teams.
The 2027 Rugby World Cup will be hosted by Australia, with New Zealand aiming to build on its recent progress ahead of the tournament.
