The Independent National Electoral Commission has projected that Nigeria’s registered voter population will exceed 100 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC also plans to deploy approximately 1.4 million ad hoc personnel across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide to support the conduct of the elections.
The commission said the existing voter register currently contains more than 93 million registered voters, with the figure expected to cross the 100 million mark after the conclusion of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, said the commission was expanding its administrative and logistical capacity to cope with the expected scale of the 2027 elections.
The commission said the experience gained from recent off cycle elections, including the Osun governorship election, would help strengthen its technology, logistics and security arrangements ahead of the national polls.
INEC is also expected to rely heavily on members of the National Youth Service Corps as ad hoc election personnel, with the commission previously projecting a total requirement of 1,414,768 ad hoc staff for the two phases of the 2027 general elections.
