A national residents register could play a critical role in strengthening security management and improving development planning, an expert has said, highlighting the need for accurate population data to support effective governance.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ProximaForte Ltd, Ayotunde Bally, noted that a comprehensive residents database would help authorities better understand population trends, improve public service delivery, enhance security coordination, and support evidence-based decision-making. Such a system, according to the expert, would provide policymakers with reliable information needed to design programmes that address the needs of citizens and communities.

The call comes amid growing discussions on the importance of digital identity systems, data-driven governance, and improved planning frameworks to support national development efforts.
