The Action Alliance governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Olaniyi Ajekiigbe, popularly known as OLA, has denied withdrawing from the 2027 governorship race or accepting the emergence of Titilola Sodo as the party’s candidate.
Ajekiigbe made his position known in a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday through his Head of Publicity, Oluseyi Akinwale, insisting that the dispute over the party’s governorship ticket remains before a competent court.
The aspirant said he welcomed genuine efforts to promote peace and unity within the party but warned that reconciliation should not be presented in a way that suggests the legal dispute has been resolved.
According to the statement, the disagreement arose from the governorship primary conducted by the party on May 26, 2026, at its secretariat on Old-Ife Road, Ibadan.
Ajekiigbe’s camp maintained that he won the primary, which it claimed was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission and other electoral stakeholders. It also said documentary evidence, including an electoral report, was available to support his position.
The camp argued that the publication of a candidate’s name by INEC did not automatically resolve questions concerning the party’s recognised national leadership or the process through which its governorship candidate emerged.
It further maintained that Ajekiigbe had neither accepted Sodo’s candidacy nor surrendered what he considers his mandate from the primary election.
The aspirant’s camp called on INEC to remain impartial and comply with any applicable court orders concerning the party’s leadership. It specifically referred to orders recognising Kenneth Udeze as the party’s National Chairman and James Veniembe as National Secretary.
The statement urged members and supporters of the Action Alliance, as well as residents of Oyo State, to remain calm and law-abiding while the judicial process continues.
The dispute highlights the internal challenges facing political parties as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
The court’s determination of the outstanding issues is expected to help clarify the party’s position regarding the contested governorship ticket.
