The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly has dismissed speculation that he is planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains committed to the party and its leadership.
Speaking to reporters, the Speaker described the rumours of his defection as baseless and politically motivated, aimed at creating confusion within the party ahead of the 2027 elections. He stressed that his loyalty to the APC is unwavering and that he has no intention of abandoning the platform that gave him the mandate to serve.
“I remain a proud member of the APC. The stories being circulated about my defection are false and mischievous. My focus is on delivering quality representation to the people of Adamawa and supporting the party’s vision for Nigeria,” he said.
The Speaker further explained that the rumours were being spread by political opponents who are uncomfortable with the growing strength of the APC in Adamawa State. He urged party members and supporters to disregard the speculation and remain united.
Political analysts note that defections are common in Nigerian politics, especially as election seasons approach. However, the Speaker’s firm denial signals stability within the APC in Adamawa, where the party is working to consolidate its base. His statement is expected to reassure supporters and strengthen confidence in the party’s prospects in the state.
He also emphasized that his priority remains governance and legislative oversight, not political distractions. “We must focus on the real issues—development, security, and welfare of our people. That is my commitment as Speaker,” he added.
Observers believe the denial will help calm tensions within the APC and prevent opposition parties from exploiting the rumours. With the 2027 elections drawing closer, the party is expected to intensify mobilisation efforts across Adamawa, and the Speaker’s stance could play a key role in maintaining unity.
