The Adamawa State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Aloysius Babadoke, has defended the conversion of the former Adamawa Zoo site in Yola into an amusement park, dismissing concerns raised over the redevelopment.
Babadoke said the zoo had ceased operations more than two decades ago and argued that the location was no longer suitable for keeping wild animals, particularly from a security standpoint.
The commissioner was reacting to a video circulating on social media that purportedly showed the former zoo and questioned the decision to redevelop the site.
He dismissed the video as misleading, saying construction of the new amusement park began in 2024 at the former zoo location behind the Deputy Governor’s Office.
According to him, the facility, when completed later this year, is expected to become one of the best amusement parks in Nigeria and provide a recreational destination for residents and visitors.
Babadoke also accused individuals opposed to the state government of attempting to use the video to discredit the administration, urging members of the public to disregard what he described as misleading claims.
He further explained that even if the zoo had remained in existence, the government would have considered relocating it to a more suitable and secure location for housing dangerous animals.
