The Mente Foundation has unveiled a clean cooking programme in Abuja aimed at promoting safer, healthier and more environmentally friendly cooking practices among households and communities.
The initiative, according to the foundation, is designed to raise awareness about the health and environmental risks associated with traditional cooking methods while encouraging the adoption of cleaner cooking alternatives.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, representatives of the foundation highlighted the importance of reducing reliance on polluting cooking fuels, which can expose households to harmful smoke and contribute to environmental degradation.
The foundation said the programme would focus on educating beneficiaries about the benefits of clean cooking solutions and supporting efforts to improve access to safer and more sustainable cooking technologies.
It noted that women and children are often disproportionately affected by household air pollution caused by traditional cooking methods, making the promotion of clean cooking an important public health and environmental priority.
The organisation also called for greater collaboration among government agencies, development partners, private sector stakeholders and local communities to accelerate the transition to clean cooking across Nigeria.
The foundation expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute to improved health outcomes, environmental sustainability and better living conditions for families.
It further urged communities to embrace clean cooking practices and encouraged stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at expanding access to affordable and sustainable cooking solutions.
The launch in Abuja marks another step in efforts to promote cleaner energy use and address the challenges associated with traditional cooking practices in the country.
