Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the immediate suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board, Birsan Penuel, over alleged irregularities in the discharge of his official responsibilities.
The suspension takes effect immediately and is intended to pave the way for a thorough investigation into the issues surrounding the administration of the board.
Penuel’s suspension comes as the state government continues efforts to strengthen accountability and improve the management of the public education system. The Post Primary Schools Management Board is responsible for the administration and coordination of public secondary education across the state.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the most senior director within the board has been directed to assume responsibility for its affairs. The arrangement is expected to ensure that the board’s activities continue without disruption while the investigation is conducted.
The state government said the decision was part of broader efforts to maintain discipline, transparency and accountability within the education sector. Officials and political appointees have also been reminded of the need to follow due process in carrying out their responsibilities.
The administration has in recent years placed emphasis on improving public education through the recruitment of teachers, rehabilitation and construction of classrooms, provision of instructional materials and payment of salaries and allowances.
The latest action is expected to place further attention on the management of education institutions and the responsibilities of officials entrusted with public resources.
Governor Fintiri has maintained that the state’s education system must operate effectively and provide students with the quality of learning environment required for their development.
The suspension does not amount to a final determination of wrongdoing, as the allegations are expected to be examined during the investigation.
