The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently address outstanding arrears and welfare issues affecting resident doctors at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
In a letter dated September 5, 2026, signed by NMA President, Dr Afekhide Omoti, the association said several agreements reached with the state government remained unimplemented despite months of advocacy.
The outstanding issues include payment of 2025 minimum wage arrears, the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, corrected professional allowances, implementation of the call and work hour policy, and upgrade and promotion arrears.
The NMA warned that excessive workload, burnout and poor remuneration could affect both doctors’ wellbeing and patient safety.
It urged Makinde to personally intervene and direct the immediate implementation of the outstanding agreements, saying this would help de escalate tensions and strengthen healthcare delivery in Oyo State.
The association also called for a monitoring mechanism to ensure all outstanding issues are resolved within 30 days.
The NMA commended the Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH and Oyo NMA for their patience, describing their demands as legitimate and reaffirming its willingness to work with the state government to resolve the dispute.
