The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has concluded arrangements to refund excess deposits to 500 intending pilgrims who paid ₦8 million each for the 2027 Hajj exercise.
The Director-General of the board, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle, disclosed the development, explaining that each eligible pilgrim would receive ₦327,178 following the announcement of the final Hajj fare of ₦7,672,822.
The refund represents the difference between the initial deposit of ₦8 million and the approved fare for the pilgrimage.
Matawalle urged the affected pilgrims to submit the necessary documents through their respective Local Government Hajj Centre officers to facilitate the refund process.
The required documents include bank account details, a photocopy of the original payment receipt and a formal letter requesting a refund.
He directed all eligible pilgrims to submit their documents on or before Monday, October 26, 2026, to enable the board to commence payments.
The Director-General also commended the Kano State Government for its continued support towards improving the welfare of intending pilgrims.
The refund arrangement will allow eligible pilgrims to recover the difference between their initial deposits and the final approved Hajj fare.
Each pilgrim is entitled to ₦327,178, bringing the total amount earmarked for refunds to approximately ₦163.59 million for the 500 beneficiaries.
The board’s deadline makes timely submission of the required documents important for pilgrims seeking reimbursement. Affected applicants should ensure that their payment receipts and bank details are accurate to avoid unnecessary delays.
