Online marketplace eBay plans to cut approximately 9% of its global workforce, affecting around 1,000 employees, as it restructures operations and redirects resources towards its highest-priority business areas.
The company announced the reductions on Thursday, October 22, 2026, confirming an earlier report that its chief executive, Jamie Iannone, had communicated the plans to employees. The affected workers are expected to be informed in the coming days.
In a regulatory filing, eBay said it expects to incur pre-tax restructuring charges of between $130 million and $150 million, mainly covering severance payments and other post-employment benefits. Most of the charges will be recorded in the fourth quarter of 2026, with related cash payments expected in future periods.
The latest cuts follow a reduction of about 800 jobs, or roughly 6% of its workforce, in February as the company continued efforts to streamline its operations. eBay had approximately 12,300 employees at the end of 2025.
Despite the job reductions, the company expects its third-quarter financial results to exceed the forecast issued alongside its August earnings report. It is scheduled to release its latest results on October 28.
eBay has been focusing on categories such as authenticated luxury goods, collectibles and refurbished products to attract buyers seeking specialist and higher-value items. Its acquisition of second-hand fashion marketplace Depop has also expanded its reach among younger consumers.
The restructuring reflects eBay’s effort to control costs while concentrating investment on areas it considers important for future growth.
