Blackstone reported a decline in profit from investment realisations in the third quarter of 2026 as volatile financial markets and subdued dealmaking made it harder for the world’s largest alternative asset manager to exit investments.
Despite the slowdown, the company exceeded Wall Street’s earnings expectations, supported by strong inflows into fee-generating businesses and continued demand for credit and insurance investments.
Blackstone’s assets under management reached approximately $1.37 trillion during the quarter, reflecting its extensive portfolio across private equity, real estate, credit and other investment strategies.
Fee-related earnings from its private equity funds rose 26% to $619 million, highlighting the strength of recurring revenue even as investment sales weakened. However, net realisations fell 34%, while private equity exits dropped 50%, reflecting the challenging environment for selling assets and returning capital to investors.
The company attracted $36 billion in new inflows across its credit and insurance businesses, helping offset some of the pressure from slower investment exits.
Chief Executive Stephen Schwarzman also pointed to widening credit spreads in debt linked to artificial intelligence companies as a potential opportunity to secure higher returns, despite growing investor caution over the sector’s rapid expansion and heavy borrowing.
Blackstone’s shares have fallen nearly 30% since the beginning of 2026, reflecting broader concerns about alternative asset managers and uncertainty surrounding artificial intelligence investments.
The results underline the challenges facing private equity firms as market volatility delays exits, complicates valuations and slows the return of capital to investors.
