The Ogun State Government has approved a one off ₦50,000 cash palliative for each of the 3,050 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members participating in the 2026 Batch C, Stream I orientation programme in the state.

The support, approved by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, is intended to ease financial pressures on corps members during their orientation period at the NYSC camp in Sagamu.

According to a statement by Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, disbursement of the cash assistance began on Monday, October 19, 2026. Each eligible corps member is expected to receive ₦50,000 to help cover personal expenses and other essential needs while at the orientation camp.

If all 3,050 corps members receive the full amount, the state government will spend about ₦152.5 million on the intervention.

The government said the initiative was designed to provide additional support to young Nigerians who are beginning their mandatory national service away from their families and familiar surroundings.

In a separate measure, Ogun State has also approved 500 mattresses for the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu.

The government said the additional accommodation support became necessary following an increase in the number of corps members deployed to the state, which has placed additional pressure on existing camp facilities.

The mattresses are expected to improve sleeping arrangements and general living conditions for corps members during the orientation programme.

The intervention comes as state governments across Nigeria face growing expectations to support corps members during their service year, particularly amid higher living costs and pressure on public facilities.

The Ogun government also urged the corps members to maintain discipline, patriotism, tolerance and a commitment to community service throughout their national service.

The NYSC programme requires participants to complete an orientation exercise before being deployed to their places of primary assignment. The Ogun government said it expects the beneficiaries to use their service year to make meaningful contributions to communities across the state.
