Emir of Gumel Dies at 83, Journalists Recall Media Contributions.

The League of Kano Veteran Journalists has mourned the death of the Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Alhaji Ahmed Sani II, who died at the age of 83.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, the League described the monarch’s death as a great loss to Jigawa and Kano states.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Emir died on Thursday, September 3, in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving medical treatment, and was buried in Gumel on Friday September 4.

The late monarch ruled Gumel Emirate for 45 years after ascending the throne in 1980.

The League recalled his contributions to Kano’s media development, particularly his role in the establishment of the Triumph Publishing Company and Kano State Television Corporation, CTV 67, now ARTV, while serving as a commissioner.

It also praised his open door leadership style and contributions to the socio economic development of Gumel Emirate.

The League condoled with the Emir’s family, traditional rulers, and the governments and people of Jigawa and Kano states, praying for the repose of his soul.
