The Federal Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have commenced orientation for 6,100 rural youth and women under the LIFE-ND agribusiness programme.
The beneficiaries were selected from more than 36,000 applicants under the Additional Finance Batch II agribusiness intake.
The National Project Coordinator of FG/IFAD-LIFE-ND, Dr Abiodun Sanni, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Sanni said the orientation would prepare beneficiaries for sustainable agribusiness ventures covering production, processing and marketing of rice, cassava, plantain, oil palm, cocoa, poultry and fishery.
He said more than 60 per cent of successfully screened candidates across Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Ondo states were women.
According to him, the project covers 10 Local Government Areas in each participating state and is strengthening the inclusion of Persons with Disabilities through partnerships with local organisations.
Sanni said the 2025 to 2028 phase of the project is supported by a 32 million dollar IFAD loan and would contribute to food security, employment generation and economic diversification through structured agribusiness development.
