The Nigerian Economic Summit Group has appointed Dr Nonny Patricia Ugboma as its Executive Director, Policy and Programmes and Chief Summit Officer, strengthening the organisation’s leadership as it continues efforts to influence economic policy and promote private sector led development in Nigeria.
Ugboma’s appointment took effect on August 3, 2026, following approval by the NESG Board of Directors. The appointment was announced by the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tayo Aduloju.
In her new dual role, Ugboma will provide strategic leadership for the NESG’s policy programmes, public private dialogue, policy commissions and platforms, as well as major programmes and strategic engagements organised by the group.
She will also oversee the organisation’s flagship Nigerian Economic Summit, stakeholder engagement, programme and partnership development, and the monitoring and implementation of policy recommendations emerging from the group’s engagements.
The NESG said the appointment reflects its commitment to strengthening its executive leadership with professionals whose experience can support sustainable economic development, inclusive growth and private sector led transformation.
Ugboma brings extensive experience in corporate strategy, finance, telecommunications, social investment and institutional development to the role. Her professional career includes a long period with MTN Nigeria, where she served in various capacities before becoming Executive Secretary of the MTN Nigeria Foundation.
Her experience in managing large scale programmes and stakeholder relationships is expected to support the NESG’s efforts to strengthen the connection between economic policy discussions and implementation.
The appointment comes at a time when Nigeria is undergoing significant economic reforms aimed at improving fiscal sustainability, attracting investment and creating conditions for stronger private sector participation in the economy.
The NESG has continued to advocate policies focused on sustainable growth, competitiveness, job creation, investment and improved economic governance. Through its annual summit and various policy platforms, the organisation brings together government officials, private sector leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss economic challenges and develop policy recommendations.
Ugboma’s responsibilities will include strengthening the organisation’s dialogue to execution agenda by helping to ensure that recommendations emerging from policy discussions receive sustained attention and progress towards implementation.
The Nigerian Economic Summit has become one of the country’s major platforms for public private sector engagement on economic policy. Its discussions have frequently focused on issues including fiscal reforms, taxation, infrastructure, investment, trade, employment and inclusive growth.
Her appointment is therefore expected to contribute to the NESG’s capacity to coordinate these engagements and deepen collaboration between policymakers and private sector stakeholders.
The new executive director will also play a central role in preparations for future editions of the Nigerian Economic Summit, including coordination with participants, policy commissions and other partners involved in the organisation’s economic development initiatives.
The NESG remains focused on promoting a modern, globally competitive, sustainable and inclusive Nigerian economy through evidence based research, policy advocacy and structured engagement between the public and private sectors.
Ugboma’s appointment adds another experienced professional to the organisation’s executive leadership and comes as the group seeks to strengthen its role in shaping policy conversations around Nigeria’s economic transformation.
