The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has suffered another setback as two governorship aspirants reportedly dumped the party amid the growing crisis surrounding its 2027 governorship primary.
The development comes as internal disagreements continue to deepen within the party over the conduct and outcome of its nomination process in the state.
The ADC had been divided between rival camps following the emergence of separate governorship candidates. One faction led by Musa Wamba adopted Salisu Uli as its candidate through a consensus arrangement, while another faction led by Mohammed Rimi endorsed former Senator Ahmed Kaita.
The conflicting positions have generated tension among party members, with supporters of the rival aspirants questioning the legitimacy of the processes that produced the candidates.
The crisis has also triggered a wave of defections from the party in Katsina. Earlier, 34 House of Assembly aspirants across the state reportedly left the ADC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing alleged injustice, poor leadership and a lack of opportunities within the party.
The latest defections by the two governorship aspirants are expected to further weaken the ADC’s structure in Katsina ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the continuing disagreements could affect the party’s chances of presenting a united front in the state unless its national leadership intervenes to resolve the disputes.
The ADC has yet to fully resolve the competing claims surrounding its Katsina governorship ticket, with the crisis raising fresh questions about the party’s ability to retain its prominent members ahead of the 2027 elections.
