The clerics were reportedly intercepted along the Dakko-Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area by armed men who stopped their vehicle and took them into the surrounding bush.
The incident occurred as the clerics were travelling towards Talata Mafara. Their abduction prompted security agencies to begin efforts to locate them and secure their release.
The latest development is the reported ransom demand of N30 million from the abductors. The demand has increased concerns among the victims’ families and the wider Muslim community, which has been following efforts to rescue the clerics.
The victims were reportedly travelling in connection with a religious gathering when they were attacked. Their abduction has further highlighted the security challenges faced by travellers and residents in parts of Zamfara, where armed groups have continued to carry out kidnappings for ransom.
Security personnel have been searching the area for the victims and their captors. Authorities have not indicated whether any arrests have been made or whether negotiations with the abductors have resulted in the release of any of the clerics.
The demand for N30 million also places additional pressure on the families and associates of the abducted men, who are now faced with efforts to secure their safe return.
Kidnapping for ransom remains a major security concern across parts of north-western Nigeria, with rural roads and communities particularly vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.
The latest incident has renewed calls for stronger security operations along major and feeder roads in affected communities, as well as greater protection for residents travelling between towns and villages.
For the families of the six clerics, however, the immediate priority remains their safe return. Security agencies are expected to continue efforts to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
The circumstances surrounding the ransom demand and the current location of the six clerics remain unclear, while authorities continue efforts to resolve the situation.
