The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has trained its personnel in basic first aid and life-saving techniques to improve their ability to respond to emergencies during field operations. The training took place on Tuesday in Gumel, Gumel Local Government Area, as part of the board’s monthly end-of-month lecture series designed to strengthen professionalism among its operatives.

The board’s Public Relations Officer, Dauda Hadejia, said the programme was organized because Hisbah personnel regularly interact with members of the public and may be among the first to arrive at accident or emergency scenes. He explained that the training focused on providing immediate assistance to victims of injuries, fainting and accidents before they could receive medical attention at a hospital.

According to Hadejia, participants were taught how to control bleeding, assist people who faint, and respond to snake and insect bites. Other topics covered included providing basic assistance to people with fractures, epileptic seizures and choking, as well as supporting women in labour. Hadejia said the training was intended to improve the operatives’ ability to respond effectively to emergencies and help save lives within their communities. He also commended the facilitators and prayed for Allah’s reward for their efforts.

One of the participants, Sani Umar, said the knowledge gained would improve his response to emergencies during daily operations. He explained that personnel previously rushed injured people to hospitals without knowing how to provide immediate assistance, but the training had taught them basic steps such as controlling bleeding before transporting victims.

Another participant, Aminu Bello, described the programme as timely, noting that Hisbah personnel frequently work in public spaces where emergencies can occur. He said the training would help them assist victims before medical professionals arrive and called on the state headquarters to extend the programme to all local government areas. The participants also offered prayers for the success of the Hisbah Board and the continuation of its activities across the state.
