The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has provided a guide for Nigerians to download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips online for free through its NINAuth mobile application. The commission demonstrated the process in a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, explaining how NIN holders can obtain the document without visiting enrolment centres or paying third-party agents.
According to NIMC, users can download their slips by following these steps:
- Download the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Open the application on your mobile phone.
- Select “Do More with NINAuth”.
- Choose “NIN Slip” from the available options.
- Complete the facial authentication process to verify your identity.
- Once verified, select “Download NIN Slip” to generate and save the document to your phone.
The commission explained that successful facial verification would enable users to download and store their official NIN slips directly on their mobile devices. NIMC described the service as free, secure and convenient, adding that the process requires only a few steps to complete. The initiative is intended to make the document more accessible to Nigerians while reducing the need for physical visits to NIMC offices.
The commission launched the NINAuth platform in October 2025 to give Nigerians greater control over access to their personal information across government, banking, telecommunications and education services. In June 2026, NIMC announced that registered users could obtain their official NIN slips through the application at no cost. Information on the NINAuth website states that the downloaded slip is the same official document issued by the commission and can be presented at banks, government offices and other institutions where it is required.
The National Identification Number is an 11-digit identification code issued to Nigerians and legal residents after successful enrolment. It helps establish and verify individual identities and links personal records to the National Identity Database. Individuals who do not yet have a NIN are required to visit an NIMC enrolment centre, provide their demographic information and complete biometric registration, including fingerprint and facial capture, before receiving their identification number.
