Real Madrid are reportedly confident of signing Manchester United teenage sensation JJ Gabriel, with the 16-year-old forward considering his future at Old Trafford.
According to BBC Sport, Gabriel has not returned to Manchester United since leaving the club in September and is exploring alternative opportunities to secure a pathway into senior football.
The youngster had been expected to become United’s youngest-ever first-team debutant during September’s Carabao Cup clash against Brighton but has instead reportedly been training independently in Spain.
His uncertain future has attracted interest from European heavyweights Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, although Real Madrid are believed to be leading the race for his signature.
Gabriel previously impressed during United’s pre-season tour, featuring against Atletico Madrid, before announcing himself with a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut.
His potential departure has reportedly been eased by his acquisition of a European Union passport, which could facilitate a move outside England.
Manchester United would be entitled to compensation if the teenager leaves, although the amount could be lower if he joins a club outside the Premier League.
Gabriel was named Premier League Under-18 Player of the Season last term, despite being only 14 during the campaign.
Former United interim manager Darren Fletcher previously praised his enormous potential, declaring, “The world is his oyster.”
United head coach Michael Carrick has also urged caution over the teenager’s situation, stressing the importance of protecting young players’ welfare and development.
