As political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum across Nigeria, a group of concerned Ebonyi indigenes has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to concentrate on delivering critical infrastructure and improving the welfare of citizens rather than becoming distracted by early political campaigns.
The group, under the banner of concerned stakeholders from across the state, said the administration still has ample time to fulfil the promises made to the people during the 2023 electioneering campaign. They argued that residents are more interested in visible development projects than political calculations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to the stakeholders, roads, healthcare facilities, education, water supply and rural development remain the most pressing needs of communities across Ebonyi State. They noted that while political alignments and endorsements are inevitable in a democratic setting, governance should remain the administration’s primary focus until the appropriate campaign period begins.
The indigenes stressed that Governor Nwifuru was elected on the strength of his commitment to continue developing the state and improving the standard of living of its people. They therefore urged him to intensify efforts in completing ongoing infrastructure projects while initiating new ones that would stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.
They also appealed to political appointees, supporters and party leaders to avoid actions capable of diverting government attention from service delivery. According to them, premature political campaigns could slow the pace of development and reduce public confidence in governance.
The stakeholders maintained that Ebonyi has recorded progress in several sectors under the current administration but insisted that more work remains to be done, particularly in rural road construction, healthcare delivery, agricultural development and youth empowerment.
They expressed confidence that the governor would earn greater political support through tangible achievements rather than early campaign activities. They added that voters are increasingly assessing leaders based on their performance and the quality of projects executed during their tenure.
The group concluded by encouraging the state government to sustain transparency, accountability and inclusive governance while ensuring that public resources are directed toward projects that have a direct impact on the lives of citizens.
They said a stronger focus on infrastructure and economic development would not only improve living standards across Ebonyi State but also strengthen public trust in the administration as the state continues its journey toward sustainable growth.
