Nigeria has won six medals at the 2026 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad, PAMO, held in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the National Mathematical Centre, NMC, disclosed that Nigerian students won five silver medals and one bronze medal at the continental competition.
Chimfimnanya Aghaduno and Damaris Oyerinde each won two silver medals, one in PAMO and another in the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad for Girls, PAMO G.
Lius Liu also won a silver medal in PAMO, while Kingsley Enwere secured a bronze medal.
The NMC Acting Director and Chief Executive, Prof. Benjamin Oyelami, commended the Federal Government for funding the preparation and participation of the Nigerian team.
He pledged the centre’s commitment to strengthening the preparation of Nigerian students for future international mathematics competitions to enable the country win more medals.
Oyelami said the students qualified through the Nigerian National Mathematical Sciences Olympiad organised by the NMC.
He described PAMO as Africa’s leading annual mathematics competition for secondary school students, providing young mathematicians with an opportunity to showcase their talents and compete at continental level.
Nigeria also won a bronze medal in the PAMO G ranking, which recognises the performance of female contestants.
