A court has sentenced a self acclaimed prophet to prison after finding him guilty of defrauding members of his church of N136 million through fraudulent investment and prosperity schemes.

The conviction followed the prosecution of the suspect by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which accused him of deceiving worshippers into parting with large sums of money under false pretences.

According to the anti graft agency, investigations revealed that the convicted cleric’s modus operandi involved persuading church members to purchase his so called “products,” claiming they would bring prosperity, financial breakthroughs, and divine blessings.

The EFCC told the court that many of the victims invested significant amounts of money after being convinced that the products would transform their lives financially.

After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found the self acclaimed prophet guilty and sentenced him accordingly.

The EFCC said the conviction underscores its commitment to combating financial crimes, including fraudulent schemes disguised as religious or investment opportunities. The commission also urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify claims before investing money or purchasing products that promise unrealistic financial returns.
