United Bank for Africa (UBA) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), describing the sector as a critical driver of economic development, innovation and job creation across Africa.
The bank said it will continue to provide entrepreneurs with access to financing, digital banking solutions, business advisory services and capacity-building programmes aimed at helping businesses grow and remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic economy.
UBA noted that SMEs contribute significantly to employment and national output but continue to face challenges such as limited access to affordable credit, inadequate business infrastructure and fluctuating economic conditions. It stressed that addressing these constraints remains essential to unlocking the full potential of the sector.
According to the bank, its entrepreneurship support initiatives are designed to help business owners improve operational efficiency, embrace digital innovation and expand into new markets. The lender added that strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem aligns with its broader vision of promoting financial inclusion and sustainable economic growth across the continent.
Industry experts have consistently identified SMEs as the backbone of Africa’s economy, accounting for a substantial share of employment and private sector activity. They believe increased collaboration between financial institutions, government agencies and development partners will improve access to funding, mentorship and market opportunities for emerging businesses.
Analysts say UBA’s continued investment in entrepreneurship reflects the banking sector’s growing role in fostering innovation and enterprise development. They noted that sustained support for SMEs will not only stimulate economic growth but also create jobs, boost productivity and enhance the resilience of local businesses in the face of evolving economic challenges.
