Senate President Godswill Akpabio has threatened legal action against the contractor responsible for installing the audio system at the National Assembly over persistent faults affecting the microphones in the chambers.

Akpabio expressed dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the equipment, noting that the faulty microphones have repeatedly disrupted legislative proceedings and hindered effective communication during sessions.

According to the Senate President, the National Assembly expects contractors handling public projects to deliver quality work that meets agreed standards. He warned that appropriate action would be taken if the contractor fails to address the issues or fulfil contractual obligations.

The matter has sparked discussions about accountability in public procurement and the need to ensure value for money in government projects. Some lawmakers reportedly supported the call for the contractor to be held responsible for any substandard work.

The Senate President also stressed the importance of maintaining functional facilities within the National Assembly to enable lawmakers to carry out their duties efficiently and without unnecessary interruptions.

The development has renewed calls for stricter monitoring of government contracts and greater transparency in the execution of public projects to prevent waste and ensure quality service delivery.
