The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education has given the management of Kaduna Polytechnic 72 hours to provide detailed records of its revenue, pension deductions and other financial transactions following concerns about the institution’s financial accountability.
The committee chairman, Fuad Kayode Laguda, issued the directive on Tuesday during an oversight visit to the institution, requesting additional documents before concluding its assessment.
Figures presented during the exercise showed that the polytechnic’s internally generated revenue declined from ₦1.478 billion in 2023 to ₦1.398 billion in 2024 and ₦1.332 billion in 2025.
The lawmakers questioned the decline despite reported growth in student enrolment and requested records to establish the institution’s actual revenue position.
The committee also sought documentary evidence concerning approximately ₦1.3 billion in pension deductions, National Housing Fund contributions and death benefits for more than 30 employees reportedly deceased between 2023 and 2025.
Other documents requested include staff records, student enrolment figures, procurement and maintenance expenditure, investment details and information on companies owned by the institution.
Responding to the concerns, Rector Suleiman Umar, represented by Deputy Rector (Academic) Aliyu Usman, maintained that pension deductions had been remitted promptly. He also explained that insurance companies handled death-benefit payments to families of deceased employees.
The management pledged to submit the requested documents within the stipulated deadline.
The committee’s review is intended to establish whether the institution’s revenue and statutory deductions have been properly accounted for. Its conclusions will depend on the additional records and supporting evidence submitted by the management.
