Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have reportedly killed eight suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during separate operations in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states.

The operations, conducted on October 24 and 25, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated firearms, three motorcycles, cutlasses and assorted charms.

The task force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, disclosed the developments in a statement.

In Katsina State, troops responded to a distress call from farmers at Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area. The ensuing gun battle reportedly left two suspected terrorists dead, while a 42-year-old kidnap victim, Suleiman Umar, was rescued. An AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorcycle were also recovered.

In Kaduna State, troops working with the Civilian Joint Task Force reportedly killed six suspected terrorists during an encounter in Igabi Local Government Area. The operation followed an attack on Ungwan Mallami village. The military statement did not confirm whether the two residents reportedly abducted during that attack had been rescued.

Meanwhile, troops in Zamfara State rescued two kidnapped men, Shehu Chete, 40, and Bugu Bedi, 25, both from Kebbi State, during a surveillance operation in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area. They received medical attention before being taken to a military base.

The task force said patrols and search operations were continuing to track fleeing suspects, rescue other captives and prevent further attacks.

The operations highlight ongoing security challenges facing rural communities in the North-West, where attacks and kidnappings continue to threaten residents, farming activities and livelihoods. Residents were urged to provide credible information to security agencies.
