Former chairman of Anka Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Ahmad Sharu Anka, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal divisions and what he described as injustice within the ruling party.
Anka announced his decision in a resignation letter dated October 19, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman of Galadima Ward in Anka Local Government Area.
In the letter, he said his decision followed careful consideration, consultations with political associates and supporters, and dissatisfaction with developments within the party.
He specifically cited what he described as a lack of unity, denial of equal opportunities for members to participate in party affairs, neglect and failure to recognise the contributions of loyal party members.
Anka said these concerns had made it difficult for him to continue his political activities under the APC platform. He subsequently declared his intention to pursue his political activities through the ADC.
Anka is a grassroots politician who has served as chairman of Anka Local Government Council and held commissioner positions in Zamfara State.
His defection comes amid political realignments in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party membership changes drawing attention to internal disagreements and competition among political groups.
The development adds to the changing political landscape in the state as parties seek to strengthen their structures and consolidate support ahead of the next electoral cycle.
