Confusion has emerged in Gombe State following the appearance of former governor and serving senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo’s name on the All Progressives Congress campaign council list ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dankwambo, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State, is seeking re-election to represent Gombe North Senatorial District under the PDP platform.
The development has generated questions among political observers and PDP supporters, who are seeking clarification over the former governor’s inclusion in the campaign structure of the ruling APC.
According to a report by Trust Radio, the list was published in national newspapers on Monday and contained the names of several prominent APC members and political leaders in the state.
The 666-member campaign council is expected to be chaired by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Other prominent politicians listed include Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, Senator Usman Bayero Nafada and Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali.
Dankwambo’s name reportedly appeared as number seven on the campaign council list and number six on the 66-member advisory council, placing him among the prominent figures listed.
His inclusion has attracted attention because of his longstanding association with the PDP and his political position in Gombe State.
The former governor is also seeking to retain his seat in the Senate under the PDP, raising questions about whether his appearance on the APC list resulted from an administrative error, a political arrangement or another development.
However, as of the time the report was published, Dankwambo had not publicly clarified his position regarding the listing.
Similarly, the Gombe State chapter of the APC had yet to explain why the opposition politician’s name appeared on its campaign council list.
The development comes amid political realignments and internal disputes within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, has also been involved in political developments surrounding the PDP in Gombe State after his name was reportedly excluded from the final list submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The report further noted that Dankwambo belongs to the PDP faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Until the senator and the APC provide clarification, his appearance on the list does not by itself establish that he has defected to the ruling party or entered into a political alliance with it.
The situation has therefore left party supporters and political observers awaiting an official explanation as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
