Popular gospel singer Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against a Canada-based pastor, Tayo Kumuyi, popularly known as Pastor Tayo Ministries, over allegations linking her to the death of gospel minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, known professionally as Toluwanisings.
The singer’s solicitors, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24, 2026, demanding that the operator of the Facebook page remove the publications, retract the allegations and issue a public apology within 24 hours.
According to the legal notice, the disputed posts were published between October 20 and 24, accusing Alabi of involvement in murder and ritual killings, including claims linking her to the deaths of Toluwanisings and other gospel ministers.
The lawyers described the allegations as false and challenged the publisher to provide evidence supporting the claims.
They maintained that Alabi had no involvement in the death of Toluwanisings or any other person, adding that the singer had publicly and privately mourned the late gospel minister.
The solicitors also accused the page operator of exploiting public grief to damage their client’s reputation and professional standing.
The letter further raised concerns about a subsequent post allegedly directed at Alabi after she issued a public warning against defamation on October 23.
The lawyers quoted the post as saying, “Tope Alabi, no letter will save you from my hand. Your only option is leaving your hiding place.”
They described the statement as threatening and said it could serve as evidence of an intention to continue the alleged harassment and defamatory publications.
The solicitors argued that presenting allegations as spiritual revelations did not automatically exempt the publisher from legal scrutiny.
They also noted that the disputed publications had attracted reactions, comments and shares on social media, with some users apparently believing the allegations.
As part of their demands, the lawyers directed the page operator to remove the posts, stop further publication of the claims and withdraw requests encouraging others to share them.
They also requested an unreserved public retraction and apology on the same Facebook page, to remain pinned for 14 consecutive days.
The legal notice further demanded that the recipient preserve relevant evidence, including recordings, messages, drafts and account records connected to the publications.
The solicitors warned that failure to comply within the stipulated 24 hours could lead to court proceedings seeking injunctions, damages and legal costs.
They also listed possible complaints to Meta Platforms and referrals of the alleged threats to law enforcement authorities.
However, the lawyers clarified that their demands were not intended to prevent truthful reporting, lawful investigations or legitimate commentary protected by law.
Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026, at the age of 41.
The cause of his death had not been officially announced in the reports reviewed. His death subsequently generated widespread reactions among gospel music fans and colleagues.
Alabi had publicly mourned the late singer following his death.
As of the reports published on October 25, the legal notice did not establish that a lawsuit had been filed, and no public response from the Pastor Tayo Ministries page was reported.
The allegations against Alabi remain unsubstantiated in the reports reviewed.
