The Gombe State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak in Kedo village, Todi Ward, Billiri Local Government Area, following an incident that claimed two lives on October 4.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Adamu-Danladi Bojude, disclosed this during a media briefing on Wednesday, stating that 74 patients had been treated and discharged, with no active admissions as of October 21.

According to Bojude, the government deployed a Rapid Response Team to investigate the outbreak and provide free treatment at the Primary Health Centre in Sheila.

He said the state had recorded seven consecutive days without new cases and would consider declaring the outbreak over on October 24 if no additional cases emerged.

The commissioner added that the government had activated an Incident Management System to strengthen surveillance, detect suspected cases and coordinate emergency response efforts.

He urged residents to maintain proper food, personal and environmental hygiene and report suspected cases promptly to the nearest health facility.

The government assured residents that treatment for suspected cholera cases would remain free.
