Nigeria’s Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) has leveraged N671 billion in public funds to attract about N1.6 trillion in private investment into gas infrastructure projects across the country.
The fund said the investment is supporting 31 projects involving 205 infrastructure assets, with the projects expected to deliver about 475 million standard cubic feet of gas daily to the domestic market when fully operational.
MDGIF Executive Director, Oluwole Adama, disclosed the figures at the 2026 Annual Conference of the Association of Energy Correspondents of Abuja, where he highlighted the fund’s role in reducing investment risks in the midstream and downstream gas sectors.
The projects cover areas including gas processing, compressed natural gas infrastructure and other facilities designed to strengthen domestic gas supply. Some supported initiatives are also focused on reducing gas flaring and expanding access to CNG infrastructure.
The investment comes as Nigeria seeks to increase the economic value of its large gas reserves by addressing infrastructure and financing constraints that have limited production, processing and distribution.
MDGIF said its public financing is intended to absorb part of the early risks associated with gas projects, making them more attractive to commercial lenders and private investors.
The fund’s intervention could therefore help expand domestic gas availability for power generation, manufacturing, transportation and other industries while encouraging further private-sector participation in Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.
