Employees at Apple stores across Italy went on strike Friday over working conditions as the company launched its new iPhone 18 Pro.
The Filcams CGIL, Fiascast CISL and Uiltucs unions said workers would stop work for the day and hold protests outside Apple stores in Rome, Milan and other major cities. More than 1,600 employees across 17 stores were affected, according to Fiascast CISL.
The unions are demanding more staff, permanent contracts for fixed term workers and greater opportunities for part time employees to increase their working hours.
Apple said its stores were operating normally and highlighted its pay, healthcare coverage and employee wellbeing benefits.
The iPhone 18 Pro went on sale worldwide on Friday, starting at €1,489 in Italy. Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the Duo, is scheduled to launch on October 23.
