The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disbursed welfare cheques totalling ₦39,967,409.28 to families and next-of-kin of 51 deceased police officers who served the Nigeria Police Force.
The cheques were presented by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, as part of the Force’s welfare intervention for families of deceased personnel.
Speaking during the presentation, Azare said the financial assistance was intended to support families left behind by officers who served the country before their deaths.
He acknowledged that financial assistance could not replace the lives of the deceased officers but said the intervention demonstrated the Force’s recognition of their service and sacrifices.
The Commissioner conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police and the Akwa Ibom State Command to the bereaved families, assuring them of the Force’s continued commitment to their welfare.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds prudently, particularly for the welfare, education and development of their families and dependants.
The beneficiaries included relatives of officers who served the Nigeria Police Force before their deaths, with the support aimed at helping them cope with the financial responsibilities left behind.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Aniedi Joseph Etuk expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the gesture.
Etuk assured the Commissioner that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the financial assistance.
The presentation forms part of the police welfare efforts aimed at supporting families of deceased personnel and recognising the contribution of officers who served the country.
