Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has joined Dutch giants Ajax on a short-term contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the season.
The 30-year-old Mali international became a free agent in June after Tottenham released him following three seasons with the North London club.
According to BBC Sport, Bissouma’s agreement with Ajax includes an option to extend his stay for an additional 12 months.
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff revealed that the club had been in discussions with the experienced midfielder since August before reaching an agreement.
“We have brought in an experienced player who knows what it takes to perform at the highest level,” Cruyff said.
“He is capable of playing in several positions, and we hope he will be available for selection as soon as possible.”
Bissouma joined Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and went on to make 111 appearances for the club across competitions.
His time in North London, however, was affected by competition for places and disciplinary issues. In August 2025, then-Tottenham manager Thomas Frank left him out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain following concerns over persistent lateness.
Bissouma made 11 appearances during his final season at Tottenham, all in the Premier League, as the club finished 17th for the second consecutive campaign.
The move to Ajax provides the Mali midfielder with an opportunity to revive his career and compete regularly in the Netherlands, where he previously established himself as a highly regarded midfielder before moving to the Premier League.
Ajax will now hope Bissouma’s experience at Brighton and Tottenham, coupled with his international background, can strengthen their midfield options for the remainder of the campaign.
